Seven Reasons Why One Should Read The Unhappy Little Dragon Lessons Learned

The first reason to read my Children's book The Unhappy Little Dragon, Lessons Learned, is entirely for the fun of it. It is an entertaining story full of engaging characters that I think children will enjoy reading.

The second reason to read my children's book is for the message; that challenges can be overcome and with a little advice and insight from your friends, children can see how truly unique and special their own gifts are! Friends can be the best teachers of all!

The third reason to read my book is for the beautiful pictures in it by Leslie Mathis! She is a wonderful artist who reallycaptures the energy and spirit of the characters in her colorful images.

The fourth reason to read my book is that it is an adventure story, a journey into the woods where kids can meet some wonderful friends!

The fifth reason is that readers can interact with the book. The last few pages of the book include a list of vocabulary words that were used in the story, and what they mean. There is also a place to write about the reader's own special gifts.

The sixth reason to read this story, is to inspire young readers to look at themselves and their challenges differently and know that they are special and inside every problem area, there is something to learn about yourself, and that each one of us is given a special gift, that is uniquely yours!

The seventh reason is to learn about giving back to the community. The characters in my book all use their talents to help each other and their community. In the end, Happy the dragon learns that he too has something very special that he can do to help his fellow creatures!

About The Unhappy Little Dragon Lessons Learned:

This is the tale of a little Dragon who has a big problem; he cannot control his fire! After a major mishap, he runs away into the forest and has a wonderful adventure where he meets new friends, learns that every creature has a unique gift. He also finds out the special way in which he can use his own remarkable gift of fire. His forest friends help him understand that he really is a very special dragon indeed!

My take on this book:

What's not to love with this book! The premise of the story seemed so cute, a dragon who couldn't control his fire, I just had to read the story.

Happy the Little Dragon has a special gift, the gift of fire. Thing is Happy doesn't know how to control it, which cause Happy to wonder why his parents gave him the name of Happy because often he is unhappy. Even though he has had a few mishaps such as burning the ruler right out of teachers hand, or burning his mother's apron right off of her, its when he ruins a special dinner with relatives that he runs away into the forest. As he goes on his journey he meets many special friends, and learns that each of his new animal friends also have special gifts.

What I quickly learned was there was so much more than just a cute story, instead there is a valuable lesson that youngsters need to know woven into the pages of the story. The story flows well and the colorful illustrations will immediately draw a young reader right in.

A great little book filled with Happy and his animal friends that is perfect for young readers.

5 Things You Should Know About Writing Children’s Books

by Carolyn Wolfe

  • It takes a bit of discipline, lots of patience with yourself and let your imagination play.

  • Don’t be afraid to succeed, but don’t let it all be about success.

  • Get a good team to help you, illustrators and publishers can be your very best friends.

  • Savor your drafts, they are the beginning of a wonderful adventure- then be critical of them. Do not be afraid to make the changes needed to present a clearer picture of what you want your characters to say.

  • Get involved, become the main character and let them lead you into the story, wonder what’s next, enter into the spirit of the book and you will never get tired of writing it!
